Cure Sweet Cravings With Gourmet Biscotti

By Lisa Williamson

The coffee craze is still going strong many years after franchise and independent coffee shops have seemed to pop up everywhere. For those who do not know, these places serve a wide variety of beverages that range from teas to blended drinks that can be enjoyed by all ages. Many customers like to have gourmet biscotti to accompany these beverages.

There are many choices for biscotti as they are sold as bite size or regular, or are plain or filled with nuts. While almonds are common nuts to use, hazelnuts, pistachios, or walnuts may be used to top or mix inside. Sometimes it depends on the flavor, as vanilla or chocolate seem to lend themselves to many varieties, even those fancy ones that use toppings.

Many coffee shops sell great tasting baked goods but the problem is that they are high in calories and sugar. Biscotti do not have nearly as much sugar or dairy as say, a slice of cake, frosted donut, or fruit tart. For anyone that wants to cut calories, these are ideal and are not as messy as other desserts when it comes to traveling.

These treats also lend themselves well to other hot and cold drinks besides coffee. Teas, hot chocolate, or special blended drinks are also good companions, as these treats do not cancel out the taste of the beverage. Even light herbal teas are complemented with biscotti and there is no loss in flavor.

People who eat biscotti often may find that buying one or two every day can be expensive over a period of time. While some may consider making their own at home, many online shops offer a wide variety of flavors. One box of biscotti may cost up to half the price of buying a single from a coffee franchise.

Like anything else, buying in bulk has its advantages such as saving money. People can also stock up on many flavors in case they desire a change or just want to have a relaxing cup of coffee at home. They are ideal for entertaining guests who may want to talk over coffee and tea, as they require no preparation or fuss.

Some sellers like to create exotic biscotti flavors that contain flavors like anise, clove, or licorice. Others like to sell flavors inspired by popular desserts like apple pie, red velvet cake, or turtle candies. Sometimes the franchise operations may try these for a time but they often sell universal flavors like chocolate, hazelnut, or vanilla.

There are other advantages to having a box on hand is they can come in handy for late night cravings or on the road. Often they are wrapped individually and are easier to travel with than some baked goods. As the years pass, biscotti will continue to grow in popularity as more flavors will come on the market and they will be carried at more mainstream retailers.
