Job Interview Hints: How You Can Look Sharp

By George Dodson

A lot of us these days grab any job opportunity that befall them. It's a way to make a little extra money to buy a few things that we want. As we become adults, we no longer have someone else to depend on for our needs aside from ourselves. There are those among us that are still living under the supervision of our parents.

Most of the time, we want a job that pays good with not much work. Application starts from submission of resume and waiting for an interview if your employer is impressed with your submitted resume. How do you look sharp for that interview?

The first and most obvious thing in an interview is what you wear. Always be mindful that there are those jobs that will need a decent outfit for work as well as for interview. Of course you don't have to be formal when it comes to positions such as construction personnel or other manual labor jobs.

If you resort for a suit on your interview then make sure it fits just right with your body. Make sure you wear a complementary tie. As they say "first impressions last" which is most likely the same with a job interview. You want to look your best.

As soon as you have the suit part worked out, it is time to focus your attention on the company you're applying a job to. Do your research. Just as everything else, you will need to know as much as you can before a company before getting in it. It is important for you to know what the goals of the company are. What is the brand? Determine what sort of products or services they are offering. Each company has their own slogan and it is something that you should know. Who was the owner/chief executive/other important people in the company?

Once you have done your research, you'll be able to answer questions regarding the company's info easily. Or, you can also incorporate some of the information that you have researched with the questions in the interview.

Of course, interview questions should also be something that you will need to research on. Among those questions that you should expect would be the question - why do you want to work in this company? You should already figure out a good answer for this specific question and add a bit of info about the company in it. Sometimes they'll ask you to describe one or two of your deficiencies. They ask you this question to get your reaction. By that time, you should have already be calm and speak of your great answer. Try to imagine yourself doing the interview in front of a mirror and think of good ways how you would say your answers. If asked about your weaknesses, try to think of those common weaknesses that others have so you won't have to be too hard up thinking of your own deficiencies.

They might ask you about your job experience. Emphasize key areas, the ones you're most comfortable with, and the ones you're most successful at. Try not to assume or make up information which are not based on facts. Always be honest and try not to speak until spoken to.

After the interview is over, thank the person. In a couple of days, contact that person again and thank them for spending their time with you. That gives the impression that you're still interested in the job, and that goes a long ways.
