Employee Retention Plan: Its True Value

By Sebastian Troup

The success of an organization greatly lies on its people. This is true in terms of keeping a business alive even when this time and age already calls for innovative technology and efficiently designed systems for more improved workflow. If business owners, entrepreneurs and executives want to see a workplace that is filled with productivity, initiatives and with well encouraged team they can trust nothing else but an employee who is highly motivated and talented.

Exceptional employees usually excel for a reason. Strong management and effective communication are essential to avoid a complacent, apathetic workplace. It's important to remember that enthusiastic employees typically respond to an enthusiastic supervisor, boss, or business owner. By engaging employees through team building activities, corporate volunteering programs and effective communication, you have a better chance retaining employees for the long haul.

Motivated employees have the ability to help grow your organization and ensure long-term success, making it essential to have a good employee retention plan. When you think of the type of work environment an employee would desire, what does it look like? More than the physical aspects like windows, natural light, or office furniture, imagine the mood of the people in the office. Keep in mind that an atmosphere with happy employees will set a positive tone for the entire company. You want your company to be a place people want to come to work, and facilitating a positive work environment is one way to retain exceptional employees.

At the heart of any effective employee retention program is an engaged leadership team who is committed to success. Make sure that everyone from middle management up to the CEO understands why it's important to retain the best employees. This goes beyond just avoiding the financial cost of finding new talent. If you can't keep your top employees engaged for the long haul, there is a good chance that one of your competitors will. Positioning an employee retention plan as something which is critical to maintaining a competitive edge can help you gain top-level support.

Successful employee engagement comes from communication and team building activities. By setting clear expectations for employees, you can avoid confusion about performance, earning potential and day-to-day tasks. It is also a good idea to communicate expectations regularly so that employees feel confident about their position. Saying "thank you" or showing appreciation in other simple ways is also an easy tool to keep employee relationships strong. Take advantage of team building opportunities like company volunteering events or training workshops to build a stronger connection between employees and top-level leadership.

An important part of retaining the best employees is providing them with opportunities to grow, learn new skills, or take advantage of skills that they didn't know they had. One way to get the best employees to thrive is through an employee volunteer program. Bringing coworkers together in a new environment will allow individuals to flex their talents, and you will likely see natural leaders emerge in the process. Volunteer programs can be a great way to pick out the "rising stars" who may become the managers of tomorrow.

Employee retention plans are truly meant for gaining loyal employees. For an organization to be with loyal employees, you can find several options to use. There can be means for employees to feel appreciated for their work and for them to keep going - recognition and reward being two of them. It is also important that your organizational mission and value statement come clear to help employees understand better. Note that, financial reward is but one of the many ways to keep employees working for you. Even when they are well-paid, with a stressful and negative working environment instead of a positive one with strong relationships you will have a tough time keeping your employees.

Why You Should Have A Drinking Water Test Kit

By Leticia Jensen

Water plays such a major part in our daily lives that we rarely give it a second thought. We assume it is going to be there when we need it, and that it is also going to be pure enough to keep us safe. We use it for all the major aspects of our daily lives, like washing, cooking and drinking, and we would miss it if it was not there.

However, it's possible that it can become contaminated. When this happens people can become extremely sick, something we do not want to happen to our family members. The problem is, what can we do to be confident that what we are drinking is safe. These days it is possible to buy drinking water test kit to use at home.

If we get our supply from the local authority we would naturally assume that they test to make sure that their customers stay safe. When it leaves their filtration system it is as pure as they can make it, but before it reaches your home it goes through miles of pipework, and then to your shower heads and faucets. All of these can be contaminated, and whereas the pipework may be the responsibility of the local utility company, they are not responsible for what is inside your home.

Poorly maintained pipes can become corroded, and this could affect the purity of the water that is passing through them. The smallest breach in one of these pipes could result in harmful chemicals and bacteria from the soil entering the water supply. It is possible to test for these impurities so as to be confident that you are keeping your family members safe.

It can be hard to accept that such a harmless looking liquid can cause such terrible pain and anguish to a family. Lead poisoning, heart disease, and legionnaires disease, can all be associated with polluted water. Purchasing a a method of testing your personal supply is such a small thing to do, but can play such a large part in your family's well-being.

Now you will find it simpler to test for contamination than it was in the past. Until these kits were devised you would have to send samples to your local laboratory for testing. This process could take time, and also be very expensive. After you have tested the water yourself, you may feel that you need a second opinion from an independent laboratory, but they are no longer the first port of call.

Unfortunately some of the bacteria that infect our supply do not give out any ghastly odors or tastes so it is difficult to judge whether there is something wrong. However, by testing the water yourself you should see if there is a problem. Though it is also important that you do know how to read the results..

If you are in any doubt about the results you get from these tests, you should seek specialist advice. It is very important that you are especially vigilant if there are small children, or anybody is pregnant, within the household. Do not worry what people think about you if you do ask for further tests, as these people would do exactly the same themselves in order to protect their loved ones.
