By Linda Ruiz

When you step in the last year of your high school already, it is important for you to have plans about what your career would be already. By doing so, you would have a clear mind when you get to choose a specific course which you would like to pursue already. So to speak, this endeavor requires a thorough decision from you. So you need to get into the hooks.

Not to mention, being able to enter college is not that easy as well. You must have all the qualifications required in order to be able to pursue it. So seeing this, you have to put careful consideration about the decision that you will be making. It should correspond well to what you really want for your future. So take choosing a career seriously.

Take note that when you select what course it is that you will take in college, it will be your field of priority for work. And surely you would not like to make things turn out to be regrets instead of satisfaction and success. So in order to avoid these disadvantages, then you will have to consider following a routine and which will lead you there.

Now, the first step to take is your assessment of yourself. After all, whatever you have decided for yourself speaks for your own future alone. So do not let the opinion of other people bother you. With this, think about a field which contains your talents, interests, and values. In other words make sure that you will be happy and satisfied in what you choose.

Now, in order to get on this ground, perhaps taking a career assessment, receiving a career counseling, and conducting a thorough self evaluation will help you greatly. Then after this, make a list of potential occupations. If you do, the list will lead you to an organized decision of where to start. It would also help for you to compare your assessment results to it.

However, in order to make things easier for you, it would be best to consider your education, employment outlook, and training requirements. And then after that, take into account the duties of the job, the opportunities for promotion, and the annual earnings. Given that, choose the job which you can make you productive so that you can improve yourself.

So after you have narrowed down your career, set goals which are attainable. You should have a concrete plan which is enough for you to establish both short term and long term goals. Speaking of which, short term goals can be met in the period of one to three years time, while long term goals can be met in the period of three to five years time.

But even these goals are not that simple to attain as well. You must really work hard for this and be open to any kind of adjustment you will be bound to make. But even with these, you must remain committed. Now, in order that you would not stress yourself up, set goals which are flexible, defined, attainable, and realistic.

So now, once you have already established your career goals, begin developing an action plan. This plan must contain everything that has to do with how you deal with your career path. And of course, aside from just containing the steps, they also have to contain possible obstacles and the steps to address them. And then lastly, obtain training in order to prepare yourself for it.
