On average CV's get around fifteen seconds of consideration. If you want your CV to stand out some careful consideration is therefore required.

Your CV will need to look original and not as though it is lifted straight from a template. It will need to be inviting and contain clear sections with a pleasing layout that is easy to follow. The actual design of the CV needs to be slightly more detailed than some of the basic templates available. You need to provide a summary of your qualifications in order for it to appear easy to read. The CV needs to be neither too long nor too brief.

Above all your CV needs to be professional and straight to the point. It is wise to always take care over small details such as layout, spelling and grammar. Design elements such as underlining, bolding and bullet points should be incorporated whenever possible. Your CV should be laid out so that it is easy on the eye. If it flows onto a number of pages make sure you number them.

Be sure that your CV has clear sections that aim to highlight all of your key skills and qualifications. Check that your work history is places as most recent job first.

Some people like to include career goals on their CV, this is ok if there is only one type of role you are looking for.

Your career achievements should be as detailed as possible and include important facts and figures if you can. Any big achievements will look more impressive if they are backed up by evidence.

Your CV needs to reflect what the interviewer is looking for, tailoring your CV for the job you are looking for is essential. You can always include additional information if you feel it is necessary.
